"Little" goes so naturally with "twerp", I just hadn't given it a second thought. If you prefer to be called a "big twerp", then I'll do my best to keep that in mind. ;-) -- alan

Good point alan. but they enjoy ascribing the reduced activity here to me! as if ! Just laughable. and BTW at least 25 percent of the posts in the recent past have been vitriolic personal attacks, a REAL turnoff to newbies or the occaisional visitor. I fail to see the meaning of the detailed stats, but whatever. It would seem that there is much more interest in the moderated groups i.e. Cgeek HB to name some of the more prominent. They do not have the archaic and anarchic format of the usenet, and whining and personal attacks are removed. e.g. "annoying little twerp" and idiotic posts from the likes of the anonymous "Steve" whose sole purpose is to follow me around. Now how sick is that? I did notice that ANY posts from ANY vendor on those sites is summarily dismissed, as being motivated to generate sales. so be it. best regards Dave www.hitechespresso.com

So what does it all mean, daveb? Is it just an indication of the decline in Usenet posting generally? Does it have to do with a decline in the interest of the subject of coffee? Is it due to a perceived narrowing of scope of subject matter? Dissatisfaction with "posts" which turn out to be advertisements? Irritation and exasperation caused by certain posters? Could it even be possible that the decline in number of postings is actually a good thing? Perhaps posts are fewer, but more meaningful and informative? If your "great interest" is borne of something more than unexamined Schadenfreude, I'm sure you'll be happy to share your thoughts . . . -- Alan ("I have no website") ("I have nothing for sale")

a further thought, alan. If my entire goal was to 'spam' this group to advertise, from a business standpoint, why would I experience schadenfreude at this reduced activity? ?? dave www.hitechespresso.com

I did finally get around to filtering daveb's latest ID, so once again, I don't see his posts, but just for the sake of curiosity, I ran the stats script on the same date range for last year. Week to week, posting volumes are comparable. Even checking goggle groups shows 266 posts for this date range last year... or 256 depending on which page you do the search from. Anyway... this same week from 2006: ============================================================================ Analysis of posts to alt.coffee ============================================================================ (stats compiled with a script by Garry Knight) Total posts considered: 285 over 7 days Earliest article: Sat, 19 Aug 07:10:25 2006 Latest article: Fri, 25 Aug 21:53:15 2006 Original articles: 43, replies: 243 Total size of posts: 610,769 bytes (596K) (0.58M) Average 35 articles per day, 0.07 MB per day, 2,135 bytes per article Total headers: 296 KB bodies: 300 KB Body text - quoted: 111 KB, original: 148 KB = 57.04%, sigs: 38 KB Total number of posters: 113, average 5,405 bytes per poster Total number of threads: 61, average 10,012 bytes per thread Total number of User-Agents: 29 ============================================================================ Top 20 posters by number of articles ============================================================================ 1: "daveb" <davebobblane@gmail.com >............................... : 15 2: "Ken Fox" <morceaudemerdeThisMerdeGoes@hotmail.com >............ : 10 3: Barry Jarrett <barry@rileys-coffee.com >........................ : 9 4: EskWIRED@spamblock.panix.com................................... : 9 5: "Brent" <me@privacy.net >....................................... : 9 6: Randy G. <frcn@DESPAMMOcncnet.com >............................. : 9 7: beans@smithfarms.com........................................... : 9 8: "Flasherly" <gjerrell@ij.net >.................................. : 8 9: "Robert Harmon" <r_h_harmon@Zhotmail.com >...................... : 8 10: Danny <danny@nospam.gaggia-espresso.com >....................... : 8 11: Steve <not@use.net >............................................ : 7 12: Lloyd Parsons <lloydparsons@mac.com >........................... : 7 13: "Omniryx@gmail.com" <Omniryx@gmail.com >........................ : 6 14: "Cordovero" <cordoveroxxxremovexxx@yahooxxx.com >............... : 6 15: ross@math.hawaii.NOSPAM.edu (D.
