I see that Alton Brown will be doing an episode on espresso on 4 Apr 07. I think he did a good job on brewing coffee in the episode "True Brew". I just hope he does as well with espresso in "Espress Yourself". http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tvlistings/ProgramDetailAction.do?method=getProgramDetails&programId=EP2739280185 -drj

I'm active on the forums at www.goodeatsfanpage.com and it was mentioned there that the machine that AB uses and recommends in the episode is a Saeco Aroma Traditional. Can't say that I was impressed by the machine choice. Chris Staley

He does the best he can for an outsider, but he'll never satisfy the purist and geeks. Experienced beer brewers are still wincing from his treatment of their favorite subject, even if he did help bring a lot of new home brewers into the fold (me!). nb

While he cut a few corners, he really didn't do a bad job on the beer episode. It's kind of like the whirly blade grinder in the coffee episode. While not an ideal tool, it served the purpose. He's good enough overall that I'm more than willing to cut him some slack on things like this. I've learned a lot from his show. I dabble in beef, pork, bread, coffee, and beer (actually, the beef and pork parts have advanced well beyond the dabbling stage). Much of my technique has benefitted *immensely* from knowing why we do certain things when cooking/baking. -- -Mike

Alton tickled my interest. Brewer Bob initiated me into the wonderful world of home brewing. You think coffee geeks are fanatical..... ;) nb

I hope he goes beyond 'counter ornament' use and into greater depth on espresso production. I'm sure it will be entertaining, none the less. Anthony.
