4 years old Gaggia Evolution, cleaned regularly... I took the boiler
apart to clean it (in an unsuccessful attempt to restore milk frothing
steam, see my other posts).
The bottom of the boiler has lost the chrome plating and was covered
in copper sludge... that's what I'm drinking every morning! Is there
a doctor in the house... is copper cappuccino a healthy drink?

It doesn't peel off like an apple. The color turns yellow in the
portafilter (and we have more shiny innards)

haha! Releived to hear this. Actually I searched the Group after
posting (should have searched BEFORE, I know...) and understood most
of us are drinking copper already; since I am aware of no three-legged
mutants in the Group I assume all is well...

Gaggia is well known for sloppy chrome plating. Peeling starts in the
filter holder.

I have worked on many older Gaggia household machines and have never
seen the chrome peel off the filter holder (or the grouphead).

Almost all our water pipes are made from unlined copper - it's not harmful.
What you saw was probably not copper anyway.
