Subject: Issues with the Bodum Santos 12 cup coffeemaker switch
|
I purchased this coffeemaker for my neighbor as a Christmas gift last November from Sur La Table. After three months the switch would stay on for a few seconds, then turn off. She contacted Sur La Table and described the problem. They said they would make an exception (an exception?) this time and replace it. Her second unit worked fine for three months and then the switch went out again. Anyway Bodum will fix it because it has a two year warranty. I'm curious if other users have had the same problem. She said she's tried other appliances in the same outlet and have worked fine. I'm surprised at Sur La Tables attitude about replacing or fixing a unit still under warranty. Perhaps they have received complaints about the unit before.

Ahhh. So the contacts are surrounded by plastic. That would explain the problem. I wonder if Bodum is upgrading the contacts or just replacing the bad ones with the same thing. Interestingly, i bought the same coffeemaker for my son and he hasn't had any problems with his. Go figure.

I gave up on Bodum plastic kettles because the plastic around the switch contacts deformed in normal use, becoming intermittent.
