Subject: Lm Portafilter mod for Silvia

Looking at the LM portafilter compared to the Rancillio. I have a new (free) LM and the biggest difference that I can see is the locking tabs on the LM are 29mm wide and the Rancillio's are 26mm. Any other mods/differences that I'd need to do? Has anyone here used a LM on Miss Silvia?? Thanks Stan

I imagine most have moved on to bottomless portafilters, or just continued to use the LM with little discussion these days. In short, yes you can use it, but you do have to file down the locking lugs by that three milimeters that you already mentioned. The advantage to it is easier tamping (since it remains flat) and the ability to use LM triple baskets, which will not fit in the commecial Rancilio portafilter. However if you drill your portafilter both issues are moot, and then you can critically analyze each shot. There's been TONS of discussion on the bottomless or "naked" mod. In short, I say shorten the tabs and use it. Or you can just send it to me if you want ;-) Chris
