If anyone uses the Gaggia MDF grinder with Silvia, what is a good starting point for the grind? I generally use #6 for my Gaggia Coffee machine.

I generally use #6 for my Gaggia Coffee machine. It is difficult to say as each MDF seems to differ. I use the following: 1 or 2 for espresso pulls, depending on bean 5 for cafe crema

Howdy Harry, There is no 'starting point' since every MDF produces different size grounds at a particular setting. If you're getting good results with a Gaggia there is no reason that grind wouldn't also be ideal for a Silvia. For those needing to 'dial in' their new espresso machine here is what someone passed along to me. Grind & test at different settings. Work down in coarseness until you choke the filter then back off one or two settings & you should be set. Good luck! -- Robert (Life's great, it's the doofus' you meet every day that sucks!)
