The ad in today's paper here in Houston for Sears' Wednesday/Thursday sale
has the Presto Scandinavian coffee maker for $17.49. Thought a few of you
might be interested.

Yeah the little green logo on the site shows the SCAA approved logo. It
seems they don't go into too much detail about anything in the
descriptions we are still waiting to see what the filter is going to
look like so we can get swiss gold filters. The SCAA approved doesn't
mean a whole lot other than it brews at the correct temp and time. So
maybe Newco felt that wasn't such a big deal for their home use
machines since they are mainly a commercial machine company. I don't
believe they ket or sell a lot of these because they weren't even
sure about shipping, they quoted me a commercial unit and said it would
be cheaper than that, and I don't see a lot of reviews besides their
commercial units, and the 4 on coffeegeek. The things I like are the
Correct temp and time and the glass lined Caraf.

Thanks Joe, I know the URL., I wanted to see/read the certification.. I
read just yesterday on the GCBC that the "certification" is a little
SCAA logo on the brewer somewhere. What I'm saying/said is there's NO
mention of it on Newco's website, of proof of it..
Thanks!
Craig.

Yeah I bought one as a gift to some freinds who currently have a Krups
4 cupper. This is the best gift type coffee brewer IMO. For myself I
organized a group buy of the Newco OCS brewers for the
greencoffeebuyingclub. My trusty old Starbucks Barista Aroma(old black
and stainless style) recently broke while being borrowed, they
submersed the control panel in coffee :-/. I was half tempted to just
use the presto scandinavian as a replacement but the hotplate is not
for me, I prefer a thermal Caraf and I really like the glass thermal
carafs. The Newco's are SCAA approved along with the technivorm and
they are normally around $100+ but we got them for a nice discount.

Hey Joe, there was a tiny bit of discussion on the Newco's on the CG
forums & I've posted some info there in one of the threads a few months
back. That SCAA certification/approval was mentioned there too, I've
looked high & low on the Newco website to see/find that info & can't
find it..

Can you direct me to it, if you know please?
Thanks,
Cheers!
Craig.

Thanks to everyone who suggested this model, and to Clayton for
pointing out the sale. We picked one up yesterday, and brewed our
first pot this morning. My sweetie is VERY happy with this purchase.

The Scandi has longevity issues. Probably why, as reported in this
forum, that they have been remaindered to K-t and Sears. Might be a
good idea to pick up more than one at the bargain price. The quality
problems were a pity since the brewer did a good job of making coffee.

Ditto LA.

It was $20 on Thanksgiving Friday, so I guess the missus will be
heading back for her $2.51 plus the governor's share. Or maybe get a
third backup
