Subject: Question, Any experience buying La Pavoni from eBay seller Elettrobazar?
I'm interested in purchasing a La Pavoni PL Professional Lusso and
found what appears as great price (almost 1/2 price) on eBay from
Elettrobazar. On the surface their record appears to be ok. But if
something seems to good to be true I'm wondering.

First, they're in Italy. That would make it more difficult to
correspond or return any purchases.

Second, although they responded to my first inquiry about availability
they have failed to respond to multiple requests about 1) is the
product a factory unit, i.e. no modifications such as they have
converted a 220 v to a 110 v or is it a look-alike, and 2) are there
any import duties or other taxes associated with sending the unit from
Italy to the USA? It would appear those are simple questions to
answer.

My sense, is it isn't what it appears.

Any collective thoughts?

Ciao

I dealt with them last year, had no problems with them.
Delivery was incredible fast, via Fed Ex, arrived here on the West coast of
Canada in approx 9/10 days.

Mind you, by the time I paid shipping, custom duties, PST.GST...........what
looked like really good deal had become somewhat tarnished :-)) I saved
approx 50 bucks over buying it locally...you being in the US would, I guess,
miss most of these taxes !

Thanks to all for the really quick responses.

Although I speak Italian the lack of a prompt response for a couple of
simple questions continue to cause me concern. While it is true they
have a very good reputation I still would have liked a response to the
question of the PL being a true factory unit without any modification.
That should have been easy for them independent of language.

They may not have first-hand experience with the second question and
could have stated it as second-hand knowledge and I would have
accepted that.

BMC, I assume you received a real factory unit. Was it one of the La
Pavoni products?

Yes you are correct, The person I dealt with was named Andrea, she responded
to my e-mail promptly.

The unit arrived without any damage, on reflection I can see it would have
been a PIA if it had arrived damaged and trying to resolve the situation, I
think you would have to take your lumps and get it fixed locally.

Seeing the savings I eventually ended up with, next time I would purchase in
Nth America, from a warranty point of view.

Regards, BMC

Brian,

As good as it looks I'll have to control my urge to buy and look at NA
for the unit unless I get some good answers to my questions.

I also dealt initially with Andrea, who incidentally could also be a
male, and still await a response.

Andrea if you're listening "Che cosa fa?"

Tino,

I am an authorized LaPavoni retailer. I know that the policy of the US
importer is to not offer warranty coverage on products not purchased in NA.
By the way, that price is lower than US retailers can buy the product for.

If you are still interested in purchasing any LaPavoni product, my pricing
policy is to beat any deal you can find advertised on the web by an
authorized LaPavoni retailer on a new, factory fresh non-discontinued,
non-refurbished, non-demonstrator etc. etc. In evaluating the deal, I will
include freight as well, so I have to be able to confirm the competitors
shipping cost to you. I take Visa, MC, Amex, and even Pay Pal. For special
pricing deals like this, I will invoice you through PayPal (you can pay them
with any major CC). I will only ship to a PayPal verified address for these
deals, and I will not accept returns for reasons other than DOA product. (so
make sure the wife likes the color, and that the lever will fit under that
shelf on your back bar.)

Drop me a line at dnila@maine.rr.com with a link to the deal you want me to
beat, and I'll email you back a PayPal invoice with my offer. Pay it and I
ship the goods, or ignore it and it just goes away. This goes for any of the
la Pavoni lever or automatic non-commercial units.

They DO have really great feedback:
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=elettrobazar
not a single negative in >500 transactions in the last year but most seem
to be in Italian.
Unless you are fluent in Italian I wouldn't expect answers to complicated
questions about taxes or voltages, and certainly not about USA duties which
as I understand they don't pay from their end.
The badge looks real but the larger image isn't any larger so you can't say
for sure.

caveat emptor!
