Subject: Questions About Backflush Detergent

Hey, everyone. I am coming out of lurkdom to ask about backflushing
detergent. My sister, who doesn't much like coffee but knows that I do, gave
me a birthday present of some freshly-roasted Black Cat Intelligentsia coffee
beans (excellent!) and a package of "Joe Glo" backflush detergent, also
ordered from Intelligentsia. I have a Gaggia Evolution espresso maker that
does not backflush. I was wondering if I can use this detergent to just run
through my Evolution and my Melitta Clarity drip coffee maker. Would it hurt
the workings? Is there something special about backflush detergent that makes
it deadly to use in a way other than backflushing?
