Subject: Rancilio Silvia problems: Is it the 3 way valve or the pressure relief
In another post I asked about problems with my Silvia. Since last week
it happens every now and then that it takes some 20 seconds before the
pouring begins.
Meanwhile I noticed that when I start brewing, there comes a rather
strong flow of water from the short hose, connected to the pressure
relief valve. Apparently this is the cause of my problem, because there
is not enough pressure to the brew head.
Now I wonder where I should look further. Could it be that the pressure
relief valve isn't functioning correctly and can it be cleaned ? If so,
what should I do with it ? (Btw, I already found instructions on how to
remove this valve).
Or should I look to the 3 way valve and clean it ?

if it were the 3 way valve you would have water going into the drain tray.

do you?

Thanks Dave for your reply.
Meanwhile I took the plunge and removed the OPV to clean/descale it. Now
everything works perfect again. Also much better espresso now. So it was
the OPV.
