I'm getting frequent, but not constant, problems with the coffee foaming out of the top of the basket and making a mess. I've got a new gasket. I clean the gasket area w a brush. I am careful about not having grounds on the rim of the basket. I tighten the basket onto the gasket. Yet it still foams over the top... sometimes, not always. What can I do? --Don

Randy is absolutely right. When i got my first Silvia, a long time ago, she came with a defective gasket and, as you have noted, leaked and foamed all over the place. I cleaned, brushed, flushed, adjusted grind, adjusted dose...nothing. Finally pulled out the gasket and the flaw was obvious. As Randy notes, even if you pack the pf full enough to totally stall the machine, it should not leak. Crank 'er down. Enjoy Cambridge! (Thinking wistfully of my little pied a terre in Inman Square...) I suspect I'm using too much coffee. I'm using a double shot basket, and I probably fill it too full. Thanks for your informed advice. I'm about to make my second cup for the morning and will put this to the test. Then, as I prepare for a sabbatical in Cambridge Mass, I will pack my Silvia and send her ahead of me. Hmmm, maybe I should bring her in my luggage and not miss any mornings with her? Thanks Don

Make CERTAIN you empty the boiler! freezing and espresso machines are not compatible. dave "Don" <donhdoyle@yahoo.com > wrote in message news:1169726603.388954.218360@v33g2000cwv.googlegroups.com... >I suspect I'm using too much coffee. How hard are you tamping and how fine are you grinding? Cheers, Rusty

coarser or MORE likely: use less coffee!! regards "Don" <donhdoyle@yahoo.com > wrote in message news:1169655526.136583.321490@k78g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... > I'm getting frequent, but not constant, problems with the coffee > foaming out of the top of the basket and making a mess.
