Subject: Silvia- Where's the stainless
I was watching my kid fiddle around with a refrigerator magnet and it
seems the Silvia has stainess on the drip grate and the panel behind
the brewhead while the rest of the panels do not hold a magnet. Isn't
the entire casing promoted as being stainless?

OK, granted.

but the silvia SS is not the "rusting" type of SS.

based on 6 years experience.

You seem to believe that a magnet will stick to stainless steel. Many
grades of stainless won't hold a magnet (but some do).

So far as I can tell, all the apparently stainless parts of silvia are
of the same grade material (it looks and feels the same, and has the
same response to a magnet). Are you sure the magnet wasn't just
attaching to the plain steel frame (the black bits) through the
stainless? The black frame is immediately behind the edges of the
panels you apparently think are stainless.

There are many grades of stainless steel. Some will hold a magnet,
some will not. Personally, I would be more concerned whether it will
rust. There is a misconception that stainless steel will not rust.
Depending on the grade, some are more rust resistant than others.

it has SS front and back shell, top, backsplash plate, drip grate and
drip pan underneath.all of the same material.

the black frame is welded cold rolled steel, powder coated.

stainless does NOT hold a magnet.

drip pan underneath.all of the same material.

There are lots of different types of stainless steel. Some are
magnetic and some are not.
