Silvia came this morning, so I just finished watching the CD. The double shot basket is a bit tight for my tamper [not the one included], and I remember reading that several alties have substituted a different basket. What is the purpose of this and which basket seems to work best? My Gaggia basket fits, but does not have the positioning ridge so I assume it won't do. Am I right?

First shots were adequate, but ran too fast. One spout faster than the other; maybe caused by using included plastic tamper, which does not quite fill the basket. Used same MDF grinder setting [#6] that I used on my Gazzia, so I will try finer next time. I imagine it will take a few shots to "season" the machine, but I was rushed this morning by other commitments. Sunday is more leisurely around here. Day two with Silvia. On for thirty minutes. Grind at #5 [Monkey Blend roasted four days]. Tamp with 58mm tamper, not the included Rancilio tamper. 4.4 ounces in 25 seconds. Pale crema. Grind at #4. Run hot water to cycle boiler. Light off -- pump on. 3 ounces in 25 seconds. Darker mahogany crema. Taste very similar to what I have been getting with the Gaggia [Coffee]. I think we're getting there.
