Subject: A tale of two harars
|
I have recently had the pleasure of getting two different Harar beans. One from Willoughby's and the other from Sweetmarias. While similar, there is some difference. For info, I tend to lighter roasts, just personal preference. The Willoughby's Harar is very good, with a delicious nuance of dry blueberry. The nuance develops in the second day after roast and sticks around for about 3 days. This roasted through 1st crack. The Sweetmarias Harar Green Stripe they recently started shipping is also a very good coffee. The dry blueberry nuance is in there, but lighter than in the Willoughby's and it didn't stick around past 2 days. Also roasted through 1st crack. With both, even past the time the blueberry nuance disappears, the flavor is excellent. Brewed either as a drip or as a 5 oz pull through an espresso machine. Both coffees were roasted on a FreshRoast +8 and Zach & Dani's roasters. The differences between the two roasters was that the Z&D ones were slightly smoother. Realistically, not very noticeable at all. If I hadn't done taste tests and just been drinking them, I doubt that I would have been able to tell the difference. This was different from my experience with the two roasters and Yirgacheffe.
