Subject: Acceptable "starter set"?
|
My trusty Saeco is finally fiving up the ghost, so I bought a Gaggia Espresso machine & thinking about a Capresso Infinity to replace my not so consistent Solis Maestro. My coffee useage is 80% drip or presspot & 20% espresso (usually on the weekends), so a need to have a first rate line of equipment isn't there. I am more worried about the grinder end of things, and have read reviews on the Capresso that seem to indicate that it is serviceable for my needs above, and does better at producing a consistent grind tha the Solis. Opinions on the Capresso? I know there are more x-pensive, better machines out there, but I just can't justify the $$ right now. Many thanks for any input.

I have Solis Maestro and Rancilio Rocky grinders that I use at work and home, both primariliy for espresso. The Solis Maestro works fine. Have you cleaned it? How old is it? Maybe it could use a new set of burrs. =20 I don't know about the Capresso Infinity. Regards, Larry

Since day one, it has never really given consistent results, especally at the fine grind end. One day it would grind great & I could get decent shots. The next day (same measured tamp pressure, same amount of coffee) it was horrible. Worked great for most other settings, but that burr on burr grinding just seemed wrong. I think the Capresso's burrs seem better designed, as is its feed hopper. Plus you can replace both sets of burrs when needed. I ordered a new one from Amazon yesterday , after returning a used one I'd gotten on ebay due to having a broken lip of the hopper container when rendered it unuseable (I hate getting stuff where things that are broken aren't mentioned in the ad) But from my brief observaton of it, it seems quite well made & the solid heavy base indicated quality parts. We shall see...
