Does anyone live in central NJ? I was wondering about good espresso
bars, coffee Roasters and coffee green bean suppliers in the area.

I'm very new to all this stuff, but I bought a Silvia,Rocky and iRoast
2 and have been having some fun. I would really like to know what a
really good shot of espresso should taste like and hopefully I will
know what I'm trying to reproduce at home.

Cheers,
Mitch

I've a quantity in transit of Costa Rican and Kenyian coffee from New
Jersey. There isn't a consensus, I've found, on the quality of this
particular storefront, but I believe they do supply green beans.
Bearing in mind I'm paying under $5USlb., less than half what some
reputable fronts provide or a singleshot from a properly trained
barista may cost to draw comparatively upon equipment you possess;-
apart from technique, I'd be surprised if a coffeehouse's beanstock
costs less than, I'll venture, $13USlb. To my thinking, if pricing is
less representative of overall the green freshness I'm to derive from
roasting my own beans, I'd chance their bean selection and its
advertised content just might coincide in a greater palatable effect,
than were I to have ordered preroasted. Least to mention, lest I
forget, green beans are even cheaper yet. <)

I only know the LBI area, which may be too far south, but the few good
coffehouses on the island all seem to get their roasted coffee from
Kaffe Magnum Opus in Millville
(http://wholesalecoffee.stores.yahoo.net/). "Rocket Fuel" is one of my
favorites as a drip. I don't see any espresso blends listed on their
site but the beans I bought marked "espresso" were quite nice in my
Gaggia...

Mitch,

I'm in more northern NJ and I don't do my own roasting so I don't know
any green suppliers. As far as roasters go, my top choice is Mara's
Country Desserts (www.marasdesserts.com/). They have two locations,
one in Morristown which is their original and not really a retail
establishment (this is where they roast) and one in Denville which is
very nice. You can call ahead to have them roast what you want and
then go and pick up in Denville. While you are there have a cappucino,
they are quite good. (I haven't worked up the courage to try the
straight espresso; I just don't want to be disappointed!) They also
make fabulous gelato. Their website says they now have a location in
Westfield too.

Other roasters are: La Sierra Coffee Roasters in Chester, NJ. They
were my favorite until I found Mara's. Also, there's Ahre's in
Westfield (www.ahrre.com) which is a distant third on my list. Of
course in central NJ there's Princeton which has a few coffee houses
(Buck's County, Small World). I believe there are a few other posts
about Princeton, just search alt.coffee for "coffee princeton".

Of course there is also Jim at 1st Line who will roast to order and
ship the same day. Since they are in NJ it does not take long to get.

At the risk of some shameless self promotion, come visit me in Maywood.
