I was thinking of buying a jura superauto until I actually tasted the
coffee it made ... blah!
So now I am wondering what to get I am thinking of spending no more
than $2,200 and want a grinder and a machine. Reccomendations?

Have you reasearched the La Spaziale Vivaldi S1 espresso machine and the
MACAP M4 Stepless Grinder?

I'd add a homeroaster unless you live near a good roaster.
And you have to decide if you can do plumb in (which would mean plumbable
and rotary pump)
Maybe a Bricoletta (1100) or a Brewtus 2 (1400), a Mazzer Mini (400), and
one of those new roasters from Korea (500).
All prices estimated from memory.

Well thats a question that should make this thread extremely long.
Mazzer is a must and the rest is up for opinion. You could get an HX or
a double boiler I would imagine at your price range. If you like the HX
theory, I have been very pleased with my Bezzera bz02 which is
basically a cheaper Pasquini Livia 90(also a machine I would
reccommend). Your best bet is to find what features you are looking for
and prioritize them and then ask for reccommendatins.

I thought that the minimum had moved up from the Rocky to the mini. :)
(The SJ will be next, the thought of the robur being the "entry level" is
kind of scary)

I think that most people here would urge you away from a superauto.
The Expobar Brewtus II at $1700 and a Mazzer Mini Electronic at $700 or
a non-electronic Mini for a couple hundred less (round figures;
discounts can be had) would be close to your target and a good
combination. But others have far more experience than I and may be
able to offer better recommendations.

Lousy reference, dave. Most ppl in the "Ready to buy" thread seem quite
happy with their brewtus rigs. The most common bitch I see is against
WLL. WLL is a retailer, not a machine.

I think the best one is the one that you research and find fits you. I
received a bonus
check awhile back, and then immediately thought of buying a super-auto,
do it all
machine. Then I did some soul searching and really thought about what
I wanted
out of it. First thoughts went to the simplicity of push a button and
drink; progressed
to the point where I wanted to actually have some elbow grease
involved, from
grinding to pulling the shot.
Myself, I ended up with a Quick Mill Andreja Premium, and now have a
decent grinder
(note: whatever grinder you have will directly impact the quality of
espresso!! well
above what espresso machine you have).
The process started, for me, two years ago when I received a Hot Top
roaster for
a birthday present. Now, my hobby has become my addiction, or is it
the other
way around... can't remember anymore.

Perhaps, but as a rule if its not an "Italian" made espresso machine
its not on my short list, especially at that price range. Expobar is
spanish if I remember correctly. I had an Olympia product and they make
those in switzerland which is really great untill you have to buy parts
or find a service tech etc....but quality wise they are second to none,
very robust parts that last seemingly forever. Is WLL the only retailer
to offer and service the Brewtus II? If so thats a big red flag.
