Okay... I know this is a hard one and everyone's got their own opinions :-) I've just splashed out on a Gaggia MDF grinder - everyone was saying you just can't get decent espresso without grinding the beans yourself so I've bitten the bullet :-) Up to now I've been getting the Illy Dark Espresso pre-ground. I've been very happy with the Illy pre-ground stuff but it takes me two weeks to go through a complete tin and, after a couple of days, I've noticed the flavour dropping off. So what I'd really like is some beans to give the same (or better) taste as the dark Illy. Any suggestions please? BTW I need them to be sourceable in the UK and preferably online (miles from decent shops etc... and I'm lazy). Thanks very much :-) Steve

Higgins creole £20/kilo :-( More realistically - open your mind a bit - coffee is a bit of an acquired taste (gosh - its only recently that i have had trouble drinking nescafe Gold Blend) and go to one of the oft recommended UK suppliers (Hillandvalley, hasbean etc) and work your way through a range of espresso blends. I guess you will will start to appreciate a wide range of blends within a week. For example - I like Illy - but my favourite is a Monmouth blend which is lightly roasted - the antithesis really. Incidentally I had a hypothesis a few years ago that illy staled more quickly when it was out of the tin than fresh roasted I don't think that anymore - i just know its a bit stale to start with. Now - home roasting... ;-) ken > Okay...
