Subject: Bidness Certificate Update FTWGAS

After failing to get the city to see the error of their ways and finding
out my attorney is the case hearing officer for these matters I decided
to fight paper with paper. I wrote out a check for the license renewal
fee and included the $10 for late fees. Then I filled out a "renewal"
application and used my old certificate number (the one they gave
away)and sent it all certified mail. I made copies of it and posted it
where the bidness certificate used to hang. I've done all I can to
appease the paper gods. Lets see what happens. I haven't heard from them
and it's been over a week since they would have recieved it.

First, FTWGAS is a new acronym for me and even all knowing Google was no
help. What does it mean?

2nd, if your attny represents the city as the hearing officer, I assume he
disqualified himself when you went to see him for advice. He probably has to
disqualify himself if it comes to an actual hearing as well.

Good luck with your approach, but I have no confidence that it will bear
fruit. They will probably just mail it back with "wrong certificate #" or
"certificate expired" rubber stamped on it and you will be back where you
started.

My earlier advice stands - find out who was the hearing officer before your
attorney had that job, or the last guy who was the chief inspector and hire
him to represent you before the bureaucracy - they will treat their old
friend a lot differently than they treat you. Or work your local connections
from the top down - contact the mayor or your council person, etc. and have
them try to untangle the mess.

For those who give a *hit.

Yep on both counts. Actually he was on vacation and his secretary
forgot he was the hearing officer so made the appointment which she
later cancelled.

Probably right, Jack.

I'm counting on the inherent laziness I observed in the staff when I
went down twice to get it paid and re-issued. Will it be easier to take
my money and issue a new number to me (fine by me) or will it be more
work in the long run for them to return it to me and continue the
silliness?

Try to get them to make copies of all your records. That might
motivate them to make things easy on everyone... or not.. just might
piss them off completely..
