Subject: Brewing a good cup of coffee with AEG Coffee Machine
|
We have a built-in AEG cofee machine (AEG model PE8038M) http://www.aeg-electrolux.co.uk/node146.asp?ProdID=2788 and I'm having a heck of a time making consistently good coffee with it. Granted, I'm spoiled with the quality of Joe around here, but I've got to believe that our coffee machine is at least on par with those EUR300 counter-top machines so many of our friends use to brew amazingly good coffee. I define amazingly good as not only great tasting, but also "frothy" out of the machine. (Sorry that I don't know the correct terminology, but the coffee I like most seems almost to have foam on top. Not steamed milk, but the coffee itself has a frothy top.) Our coffee as often as not comes out flat. I've religiously followed the product manual's recommendations for calibrating the quantity of ground beans and water. I've experimented with the grounds' texture according to humidity. And I'm still not anywhere close to the quality of coffee that our friends with the cheaper counter-top, corner hardware store machines make. By the way, we use Illy espresso beans. Eager for recommendations. Brewing bad coffee in Austria is nearly a national offense, and I need help.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll give them a go. I'm confused, though, about using fresh coffee. Aren't the Illy coffee beans in the cans fresh (or is that an oxymoron)? Coffee for Connoisseurs wrote: > 1) Use FRESH coffee (not Illy.)

It's a Napoletana/Mokita Combi internally. You need to do 2 things: 1) Use FRESH coffee (not Illy.) 2) Get the grind right. See http://www.coffeeco.com.au/junior_instructions.html for basic instructions. -- Alan alanfrew@coffeeco.com.au www.coffeeco.com.au

Illy? no -- they have been in that can for months! -- They are not too bad when the can is first opened, but stale VERY fast after that! Go to a local roaster! regards Dave Steve_von_=D6sterreich wrote: > Thanks for the recommendations. I'll give them a go. > > I'm confused, though, about using fresh coffee. Have you read Ukers page 299 and continuing? They reckon that it doesn't then stale any faster once the tin is opened. i guess it just SEEMS like it and its an illusion. ken "daveb" <davebobblane@gmail.com > wrote in message news:1152478885.030846.90520@35g2000cwc.googlegroups.com... I suppose if it's sufficiently stale to begin with, that could be true. -- St. John An artist should be fit for the best society and keep out of it.
