Subject: Can somebody recommend an auto drip coffee maker?

Hello,

I'm in the market for an auto drip coffee maker and there are just soooo
many to choose from. Here are my requirements:

(1) $100 or less
(2) Easy to clean
(3) Preferably 4 cup or if larger, easy to scale back to 4 cups.

Anyone have a favorite model to recommend? Thanks in advance.

Thanks everyone for you input. Just ordered the Saeco Renaissance XX
from Costco. It's amazing how much cheaper it is at costco than at
other retailers, so thanks, Robert, for the link as well as the suggestion.

With shipping & tax at Costco my price would have been $51.76
There's an eBayer who has it for about $45 shipped.
Although the return policy at Costco is second to none some folks
aren't members....

Guests claim the coffee from our Presto Scandinavian is superb...

I drink coffee made in it on Sundays with my wife. It makes us both
happy. She doesn't care for the robustness of cafetière and I get
something I can taste. We use a gold filter.

Most people here will hesitate to recommend anything but the $200+
Technivorm for fear of being ridiculed by their peers. I on the other hand
no longer fear anything & recommend the following from Costco.com.

We just bought a Saeco Renaissance XX & my measurements show it to brew at
an acceptable temp. $75

My neighbor uses a PRESTO Scandinavian Design & it too maintains a good
brew temp. $36

I'll chime in, too.

For glass carafe, Presto Scandinavian. Around 40 bucks. Maybe cheaper at
Sears since they bought the discontinued stock.

For thermal, the Zojirushi Fresh Brew. It's tall and not a designer
ornament, but I think it does a fabulous job. Around 85 bucks not on sale.

This is the second thread like this in the last week or so.... but OK.

Once again I'll chime in for the Braun no-frills coffee maker (has a
name with "aroma" in it, but I don't remember exactly). Goes for about
$20 at most retailers. Use a coupon and pay less (such as at Linen 'n'
Things or Bed, Bath & Beyond).

Brew temp may not be as high as you like... but taste the coffee to see
if you like it. Brews half a pot (5 "cups" = 24 oz of water) very
well. I've been using one for months and get consistently good-tasting
results.

When buying at a name retailer, if you don't like it, it's easy to
return. So at that price, it's worth a try, no?

I was in the market for something similar a while back and could not
find anything under $100. Most readily available consumer models have a
number of shortcomings, in my opinion, most notably for me in the water
temp being too low during brew. Some such as Capresso and other
higher-end models do better, but nowhere near $100.

I gave up and bought a Cuisinart Brew Central ($80) for various
occasions. It has a 4/12 cup setting and is programmable.

If I have the time, though, I prefer to use a manual filter directly
into a thermal glass-lined carafe. I use an electric kettle to get the
water to just-below boiling and just pour it through. My results have
been miles better than auto, and this option os also much cheaper. Some
also swear by a French press, another cheap option.

Since every supermarket in the US has at least one and every Walmart a
half dozen, I must conclude you are either blind or never looked
further than your linen closet.

While it seems a clever quip, the under $100 stuff from "every supermarket"
and Walmart and the like often fail the "easy to clean" test by having all
sorts of ridges and grooves and whatnot in the filter holder that clean
right up with a dishwasher but are a pain in the butt to get clean by
hand--you have to go after them with a group brush and cotton swabs and
even then there's some little cranny that you can't get anything into.
That being the case it's actually a reasonable question.

I guess we all have different thoughts about what 'fresh' coffee really
is, huh?

I own a pod maker and while I like it, especially for a quick cuppa when
I first get up, it isn't even close when it comes to freshness.

Have you ever tried Folgers pods?
I buy the 100% Columbian since it is pure Columbian.

...and I must conclude you either did not read the rest of my message or
ignored it, as I explained why the under $100 models did not work out for
me. Whatever, that was my first and last attempt at trying to be helpful.
