That sounds competitive, but actually just an informal get-together. I roast and brew at a small farmer's market in North Riverside, just west of Chicago. http://snurl.com/sleg I'm using a homebuilt and fairly novel roaster, with BTUs unfortunately limiting me to less than 5 pounds. http://www.coffeegeek.com/images/26776/Coolingtray.jpg On August 26, I'll be inviting anyone with 3 or 4 pounds of greens, who'd like to roast and swap their roast(s) with others, to show up for some fun. I have NO idea how I'll run the booth under the circumstances, seriously. Maybe I'll just make it a "free coffee day" for anyone wanting a brew. With that in mind, if anyone wants to bring rested beans just for brewing, we can share that around too. I'll be announcing this to market patrons as a chance to chatter with craft roasters. Maybe we'll see some new home roasters catch the bug (in which case, I'll lose customers but gain peers). The roaster can run continuously, so in theory the event could accommodate a dozen or more folks bringing beans. The market runs from 8:00 am till 1:00 pm, with very few patrons in the later hours (especially if it's a warm day). Roasting participants could come and go as they please, though. I serve one-up Aeropress brews, but if anyone wants to bring other brewing devices I'll have hot water. The emphasis, though, will be on roasting, exchanging tips, and so forth. I'll post a reminder in August, too.

Was paddling down from Sauk City, then stumbling about Devils Lake early this week. Will probably do the same next week. My idea of a great time is playing about in the wondrous, sandy Wisconsin River, and trying to distract the kids when we paddle by the nudist beach. ;-) -- Scott

Even though I have no formal events planned for the remainder of the market season ( 28 is the last day), anyone is welcome to stop by and chatter or bring some greens to roast. Figure on 1.5 to 4.5 pound batch sizes. I'd suggest coming after 10:30, when things quiet down a bit and it's easier to talk shop. Next year I'll be shooting for the same weekend -- the weekend before the labor day weekend. - Scott
