Subject: Coffee Grounds left over

Ive had my silvia for about 6 months now and still am struggling with proper shots. I have a Mini mazzer grinder and have experimented with different types of coffee. my main problem is with the length of time im pulling my shot. It is always fast. 15 seconds to pull 2-2.5oz. So naturally I grind finer and now i have coffee grounds left over. Is that a normal result(coffee in my espresso) or do i have another problem at hand? Could I have too high of a pressure, filter insert holes large, temperature not high enough, bad coffee....etc
