Chewing tobacco really grosses me out. It's putting saliva in contact
with a processed plant by-product and then swallowing small amounts of
the resultant brew for taste and effect.

But isn't drinking coffee just doing the same thing? Except making a
whole cupful of the stuff part you swallow ahead of time, and then
sipping it?

Discuss.

Dearest Lawrence (may I call you Lawrence?),

Is the question you pose above about mouth cancer a rhetorical
question? Or am I really supposed to answer it? If I'm to answer it
honestly, I must confess I've never seen mouth cancer with my own eyes.
I tend to frequent websites that show a lot of cancerous lesions, but
as we all know, virtual reality is *not* reality! have you ever
actually *seen* Asian teens, Lawrence?

I'm a little unclear as to the reference to the ass hole. Are there
studies showing one can get ass hole cancer from coffee?? Wow, that's
news to me! I hope not, because I drink a fair amount of coffee.

Thanks again!!

Dear Douglas (may I call you Douglas?),

Thank you so much for the reply! I am learning more and more about
chewing tobacco every day. There is sooo much to learn! The idea I
had that some small amount of the tobacco spit get swallowed is
something people told me. But perhaps those people were wrong! I
learn something new about people every day.

No I had not, but the next time someone says I have no life and too
much time on my hands which is the primary cause of my various
websites, I will point them to www.dhmo.org. Very funny, indeed!

I read that consumption of DHMO, even in small amounts or when
combined with other elements, can cause a build up of uric acid to the
point that if it is not removed from the body, death can follow! This
is particularly true whne combined with small amounts of
3,7-Dihydro-1,3,7-trimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione. No, REALLY!

Yeah, like I fill my mouth cheek with 2 1/2 tablespoons of ground
coffee and then spit my saliva on the ground.

Starbucks here it comes. Coffee Spitoons.

You should really take this over to a tea drinkers' forum, for that's
where the real similarity lies: leaves to leaves, whereas here you're
trying to compare leaves to nuts.

Dearest Johnathan, thank you for this good reply. You are right;
sucking on sugary things and swallowing the resultant sugar spit (a
Lifesaver never sounded so horrible) is probably more analagous
to...well, something. I forgot what we were talking about. But yeah,
for someone (me) who hates spit, a lot of things food and oral related
revolve around it.

Kinda hard to swish coffee fragments after they have been through my
grinding teeth, else I would.
I don't spit I swallow.
Chewing whole roasted coffee beans is also good for reducing the effects of
garlic breath or so I 've read somewhere.

Now cuppings is where they spit the brewed coffee out. Maybe you'd like to
go to a cupping at your local coffee roaster.

While I am not against spanking (adults only; no children), Robbie, I
don't know why my ways are "evil." I'm sorry my coffee questions are
not the run of the mill (pun!!) "tamping" questions, or "grinding"
questions, or "espresso pump" questions, or even "roast" questions.
But they are not evil! Still, holla back at me about that spanking.

First the dis and t later the cuss....

'by-product doesn't seem quite right. Seems like it is the product desired
not just the by .

Well there are lots of processed plants 'by-products' so I don't see where
coffee is the best comparison. Sugar is closer. And many like to suck on
that it its various forms like candy (ewwwww! how gross)

I usually like to chew on whole bean roasted coffee to get a sense of how
the roast went right after I'm finish roasting.

Oh, I don't think that Katherine (may I call her Katherine?) is a
troll. I think she just enjoys being a smartass. Given the
hyperseriousness of some of our members, her frivolity, while not
rating terribly high on the humor scale, is almost a relief.

Won't (may I call you Won't will?)...
Well she _is_ a troll in the strict sense but I agree she does add a little
light hearted comic relief that is often missing hereabouts.
There was a part of her post that was about coffee but some, in reply, chose
to focus on the tobacco aspect and acuse her of not posting about coffee
when she clearly asked how this related to coffee in her post. So we can
talk about the coffee aspect of this or we can navel gaze about some
non-coffee aspect. it is up to us. <* >

Ya, but when your hand turns red from the spanking and the batteries
go dead in the marital aids, it just isn't fun any more no matter how
