Hi! It's been a long time since I last visited this group... After years using my dear Gran Gaggia, I felt like buying a new machine. Unfortunately, there were very few options within my price range here in Brazil. Basically, the choice I had was: the Gaggia Evolution, many Briel models (including some that looked quite expensive, in stainless steel bodies and things), the Ariete Retro, a few Saeco models, a Krups model that is sold under the Arno brand in Brazil, and basically that was it. I chose the Gaggia Evolution (the Baby was way beyong my price range, and the only model available here was the one that uses those coffee capsules...). I haven't received it yet, but I'm pretty much in peace with my choice. The expensive-looking Briels were about the same price and looked better, though, but I just didn't trust the brand Briel (for one thing, I had never heard of it...) Please, say that I didn't make a mistake! By the way, it's good to be back! Hugs, Ricardo (Sao Paulo, Brazil)

Nah - need more subjectivity. Though won't be near as pretty as picture magazines selling a product, newsgroup reviews and experiences can be an asset when overcoming supposed objectivity in reporter endorsements with biased pumped up street prices for the industry. Especially so if you build computers. Don't know about Moka pots, don't think I'd especially enjoy trading a pump driven espresso machine for one, and wouldn't necessarily put a DeLonghi above a Gaggia if the Gaggia were reduced to $60US. I've noted others (since with upgrades) that liked their Krups, but can't say much for Briel and Saeco. Without a specific endorsement, I tend to go by mass production numbers - what's popular, available, not necessarily expensive, but likely serviceable. Time's the other mitigator, time to experience possibilities, and money.

It takes up little bench space and in my opinion is very attractive. You should be happy with it. Regards John Brisbane Australia
