I guess I was lucky in that the first time I tried this, it worked flawlessly just as the video showed. Since then, it has been hit or miss, mostly hits. But reading on Home Barista website, in the review of the La Marzocco GS3 it talked about centering the wand in the milk. I thought, what the hell? A wand is a wand is a wand and Miss Silvia is no slouch at producing steam. So I tried it. Put the tip of the wand in the center of the milk, just under the surface and let 'er rip. Wow! It stretched the milk wonderfully and produced excellent microfoam. I tried it 5 or 6 more times and it was consistent. During the steaming, I raised the level of the tip as the level of the milk raised during stretching. And no moving of the pitcher other than height.

hmm ok, for me it works best when i keep the swirlling motion (or whatever you want to call it) all the way through, but just lower the tip when its about 100.
