Amazon has the Gaggia 35008 Carezza on sale today only, for $185.99
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001KO9QU
Shipping is free!
Use coupon code SUNSAVER and the price drops to $160.99 delivered!
Lowest price on Froogle is 198.95 + shipping.

You are urged to read them before making the purchase.

From all that I have read, the home Gaggias are basically all the same
with the exception of the outer case materials and design, and the
upper-end home machines have a 3-way valve whivh this one lacks (no
backflushing, so you can keep that term in your killfilter). ;-)

Usual disclaimers apply, as well as a few that don't.

No, the "G" doesn't stand for gaggia
No, I am not related to the factory family.
No, I don't own one.
No, you don't have anything better to do than read these stupid
disclaimers.

Like the deal though. If I weren't moving and spending every penny I
have to do so I would probably snap one up.

Yes, that is true -- ALL the internals -- pump, thermostats, boiler ARE
ACTUALLY the same. I work on 'em.

( the differences are in the housings, switches , steam valves, and
brew group assemblies.)

I tried that and got $198.95 and "this offer is expired" on the coupon code.

When I tried and it worked as stated.

I see you posted about your failure at 4:20am the next day....perhaps the
part about "on sale today only" kicked in.

Gee- Randy,

It's a shame that all the late BS makes you feel the need for all the
disclaimers! Randy "I'm simply posting this in the hopes of passing on
the savings to others" G. Wow- what a diabolic and cunning
person/poster you've become! When you are attacked for trying to save
someone a buck or two, it is painfully obvious that there are too many
people (Kids?!) who have too much summer time on their hands! Don't let
them discourage you, or cause you to hesitate posting a sale, or any
damn thing that you want to post, for that matter!

tee hee.. Not to worry, Jim. I do this for my paper's subscribers
from time to time as well when I find deals in which they may be
interested - Like the one where we got 100 name brand CDR's for around
$12.00 about a year ago. When I see something coffee that might
intrest the group I post it. It is, indeed, laughable that anyone
would complain. It intrigues and entertains me. HOW DARE I try to save
anyone money!? What an ass I must be...

Randy,

Did you really mean "the best machine will make poor espresso with an
excellent grinder"?

If so then I am just as confused as Robert.

Subject: Re: SC/TO feedback?

I've been waiting for some of your feedback on how the SC/TO is doing,
Robert. I was actually surprised at the learning curve on that thing.
I had graduated from a whirly-pop and it seemed I could do no wrong
with that thing. It was hit or miss whether I would end up where I
intended but the results were always good.

I went to the SC/TO to get more predictable results and to finetune my
roasts in the lighter range. What I found was that it was easy to
underroast beans as opposed to the Whirly-pop.

Long story short: I now have maybe 40 roasts under my belt with my
SC/TO and the thing exceeds my expectations in terms of performance and
results.

As far as espresso blends I have a new creation I call "Funky Monkey"
20% Aged Sumatra, 10% Gayo Mountain Sumatra, 50% Nicaragua Segovia,
and 20% Harar. I just finished a shot and I am amazed at the sweetness
and deep winey fruit. All underscored by a hearty earthiness and rich
cocoa.

Yet it still doesn't beat my "Unmatchable Blend" Unmatchable because I
have no idea what I put into it. A handful from 5 or 6 bags in my
stash. Didn't even look at the bags.

I got my Carezza from WholeLatteLove for around $199 shipped. $161
shipped is one hell of a deal! I'm very happy with the machine. I used
to have a mr. coffee steam machine that ... well I won't go into details
but I wasn't ever happy with it. The thing that sold me on the Gaggia
(besides the price) was that when I called WLL the salesperson explained
to me just like you mentioned, that all of the Gaggia's are pretty much
the same internally.

I am becoming more and more of a coffee snob too... I blame this machine :(

I've ordered coffee a couple of times at a restaurant and sent it back
haha. I've never sent food back! sigh.

I'm starting to have machine envy but I think that the extra money you
save on this machine would be well spent towards a better grinder.

That's one of my first pulls after I got the grinder. Still have some
work to do but it's not that bad! Ignore the dribbles here and there.

Dave,
If you're consistently getting shots that good or better most folks here
should be envious of you, not the other way around. What coffee were you
using with that Tagex Rio (Mazzer) grinder?

I picked up one from them too & my sick coffee shots (from a $$$ La Cimbali)
got 'well' almost immediately. It replaced a MDF & a Rocky that I'd been
using for years. Now between the La Cimbali & the Mazzer I'm probably fixed
for life (or until the ol' ball & chain ;) is out of town next month).

Robert,
Yeah... TageX grinder. Claimed to be a Mazzer Super Jolly? replaced
the burrs. The switch (timer) is broke... it'll sit there and make a
noise but never runs down. I think I'll just replace it with an on/off
but doesn't seem like a big deal right now. They're like $50 for the
switch too... ouch.

So far I've only used two kinds of coffee. The first was a coffee by a
local coffee shop/roaster. Just their house espresso blend. Lots of
creme. I then decided to try some $tar bucks. I was much much happier
with the local roaster's coffee. I tried my hand at roasting with a
popcorn popper, but all I roasted was some kenya that I got from sweet
maria's. I roasted it for my dad and he said it was the best coffee he
had ever had (there's another local roaster that roasts about every 2
days... that's where he usually gets his coffee, and he said my roast
was better than that!!).

I actually meant to ask what coffees people here suggested I try. The
star bucks is definately over-roasted for my taste. The other coffee
that I tried actually was too. Another odd thing to me is that I'm
having to grind to where the burrs are almost touching. I'm not sure
why really. I'm tamping to ~35lbs and giving a couple polishing twists
to 20lbs.

I was thinking I was getting some channeling going on and that's why I
was getting short shots so I ground a little coarser and it was worse
so.....

I just finished assembling my TurboCrazy. I'll roast one of the eight half
pound samples from Sweet Marias. I asked Tom to concentrate on the ones he
thought would best roast to a darker finish. I'll do the Brazil Cerrado to a
full city++ roast & let you know how it went. I also used a
White-Westinghouse air popper for a while but its capacity is too limited
(I'll use it to do some espresso blends later).

You have plenty to put in quotes! ;-)

Very nice pull, and once again we have an illustration (literally and
figuratively) that the grinder is more important than the machine. As
so many of us have said, a mediocre machine can make good shots with a
quality grinder, but the best machine will make poor espresso with an
excellent grinder.

And you will learn, as you go, that small adjustments make huge
differences. The last day or so I have been having a bit of a time
getting things right. I have made a number of changes recently,. and
although they would each seem minor, all together they have taken some
adjusting. A new shower screen, a new portafilter body, and a change
in burrs, all a few weeks ago, have all combined to challenge.
Yesterday was not bad, but nothing to drink straight. Today- I dropped
the brew temp one degree and went one click more coarse on the grinder
and it made a huge difference in the cup. Phewww... wife is happy
again! ;-)

No machine can make good espresso using a BAD grinder.
Most machines can make good espresso using a GOOD grinder.

Use a cheap grinder, monkey will throw poop at you.
