Subject: Gaggia Coffee with PID for sale (UK)

Due to personal circumstances (okay, severe lack of cash :) ) I've
decided to sell my recently PIDded (strange verb, that) Gaggia Coffee.
I've put up a couple of pictures of it here:

http://tinyurl.com/n3wkg

The machine is about two months old, which means you'll still have 22
months of warranty left on it (I'll send along the receipt and the
registration form, so you can register it with Gaggia). It's in
excellent condition - no scratch marks or anything else that shows it's
been used.

I'm also including a stainless steel tamper with a wooden handle, which
isn't a Reg Barber but looks conspicuously like a Reg Barber. It's very
nice and heavy, looks good and fits perfectly into the Gaggia
portafilter (see the pictures for an impression of how it looks).

The Gaggia Coffee is basically a Gaggia Classic without the solenoid
valve. The PID is an Auber PID which I bought on e-bay in the states,
which I've put in a black enclosure of hard plastic. I've done a lot of
work on getting the thermocouple in the right place, and it's working
really well the way I've set it up right now. It takes about a minute
and a half for the boiler to get back up to the right temperature after
pulling a shot, and brew water measurement tests show that the water
temperature is pretty consistent.

I'm hoping to sell the whole package for around =A3200. If you're
interested, write me an e-mail at the following address:
r=2Erensma (at) virgin.net
or, if that's not working (I'm changing to a new provider shortly):
r=2Erensma (at) sms.ed.ac.uk

In case you only want to buy the machine and not the tamper or the PID,
let me know as well - although at this point I'd highly prefer selling
everything at once.

What I'll probably do is put it on e-bay with a coded description, so
that only the person interested can find it and buy it that way. I'll
look into what postage will cost, and discuss the details with whoever
is interested. I'm in Edinburgh, Scotland, so you can always decide to
come and pick it up if that's convenient for you.

I realize that this is a non-commercial group, but since I won't be
making any money by selling I figured posting this here would be okay.

I've decided to put the machine on e-bay as a regular listing. Here's

Hope this doesn't mean you're thinking of retiring from the
scene altogether, Ritske..? Just a temporary glitch in your
search for the perfect coffee..?

A thought ..which may not be entirely helpful to your present
workload, of course - but why not approach Gaggia - or even
Rancilio (!!). Either or both may be looking for a part-time
Edinburgh based rep ..sort of a Jenner's demonstrator/flogger
of proprietary machine goods and value-added sales..

You can cite your Barista Training - (from a.c. of course)
and you do have the research wherewithall - and expert help
at your fingertips..

Perhaps a few hours interesting break in the slog.. and even
some cash/in kind with which to pursue your coffee interests?!

?:))

Hi Bill,

Nah, I'll be back - just taking a break, I guess... Good idea about
contacting Gaggia; unfortunately I don't have the time - only one year
left before the PhD has to be over and done, so I should really go into
full-time finish the darn thing modus :). Besides, the coffee obsession
was starting to take too much time anyway - which is one of the reasons
I'm selling! More important, however, was lack of cash - which is why
i've just started a new part-time job, which means no time left to do
sales rep stuff for Gaggia. Besides, I'm quite sure they've already got
people to do that. When I was at House of Frasers the other day they
told me they had had a visit from the Gaggia people just recently.
