Crap! My wonderful wife bought me this thru ebay (NIB shelf pull, never opened, never used) for our Anniversary back in Sept. I also got a SquareTrade extended warranty on it, just to be safe. But that doesn't kick in till the oem warranty is up (one year) WHAT a diff from my old Saeco! However now, it has begun acting up, namely after warmup, I pull a water shot or two to get everything hot, when I notice it has begun to drip quite fast, until it actually fills up the cup. Also it is steaming out of the porto, not like when creating steamed milk, but you can see it coming out. This is after I verify that steam button is off. I can still pull pretty darn good shots & make cappas with it between it dripping & "steaming", but it needs fixing. my Question: Has anyone had experience getting Gaggia warranty service done in US? I found several local area Authorized Centers, but am wondering if they will honor my oem warranty on it, as it was bought from an ebay merchant? Luckily I kept my Saeco for a backup, but this is definitely going backwards a step. Any input/suggestions much appreciated. Plan on calling the service center this week, in any case, but hoping to not have to open my wallet further. aB

Can you see if it's dripping through the shower screen or around it? If it's dripping and blowing steam (like a choo choo) through the shower screen, it sounds like a faulty pea valve. It's relatively easy to replace yourself. The parts and explanation is at: http://www.wholelattelove.com/articles/espresso_machine_repairs.cfm The same thing happened to mine. It's very common on the Gaggias which have pea valves. You need a metric Allen wrench to take off the shower screen and undo the inside of the valve. Then use a big screwdriver or chisel to unscrew the whole valve. Pop the new one in and presto. Cordovero- Wow, thanks, this looks like what my machine is doing! Will verify that is where the leak is coming from tonight, & if so I should be able to swing it.Especially since there may be issues in regards to warranty coverage, since it technically was not purchased from an authorised Gaggia seller. Many thanks to you for taking the time to help! Cheers & will post my results aß On Tue, 14 Nov 2006 22:16:43 -0800, "Cordovero" <cordoveroremovexxx@yahooxxx.com > wrote: >Can you see if it's dripping through the shower screen or around it? Yeah, sometimes a bit of scale can mess with the pea valve, too. It's not the best design in the world, but at the same time, the Gaggias are still an amazing value. I, for one, have even been extremely impressed with their steaming abilities, which folks who have never touched a Gaggia still will often poo poo. I agree, once you get rid of the stock panarello wand & use a non-enhanced one, the microfoam is a breeze to make, time after time. I also have a Capresso Infinty grinder, and together w/ the Gaggia I easily pull better cappas & lattes than any local coffee outlet near me (except perhaps Kean Coffee, those barristas have some mad skillz) I lucked out on the Gaggia, & got for $129 from an ebay seller. I still occsaionally pinch myself <g > Cheers On Sun, 19 Nov 2006 16:46:56 -0800, "Cordovero" <cordoveroremovexxx@yahooxxx.com > wrote: >Yeah, sometimes a bit of scale can mess with the pea valve, too. You're lucky you're getting what you want with the Infinity. I have two of them, and they stopped being adequate for espresso after a few months of use. Now I just use them for drip or press. I don't even go into "Extra Fine" territory using it , as the results can choke the Gaggia pretty easily. One click up from the left in Fine & it seems to get me where I want it. Well crap. Seems my joy was short-lived. It started dripping excessively again, not as bad as before, but more than is acceptable when trying to load in a shot to pull.
