does anyone have any experience of these machines ?

I've been given one which won't start up, blank display. the manual
says check the power supply, fuse etc and I've done that. I've also
checked the internal fuse and it's ok.

obviously, I'd like to get it going again but before I get someone
in or take it in to be fixed I'd like to have a go myself.

any coffee machine engineers in the house ?

You've gone about as far as you can go. Next is board swapping.
the boards are NON repairable. -- replace only.

cuz as you already know this is not a simple machine but contains a lot
of circuitry,
and IMHo if it won't come to life after you have checked the incoming
power, etc. the next step is expensive.
