For my 2p, a screen filter is a must for drip coffee.

The question at hand is whether there is any difference _ in the cup _
between the high priced SwissGold perforated foil and Krups / Braun et
al. screen.

We use a $5 special from Target with our Presto Scandi, but recently
received a genuine SwissGold.

I normally only drink drip coffee once a week with the missus on
Sunday morning, espresso or press being preferred.

The first time we tried the SwissGold, I thought "Don't remember this
... like this" We used it a few more times to 'season' it, just in
case.

For an unscientific test, I roasted up 300gr of Kona to a nice city
roast and let it rest a few days.

I grind finer than 'drip grind' with a newish Gran 'Banshee' Macinino
and did not change the setting for the test.

For the past week, I alternated days between the SwissGold and BrandX.
I don't remember the maker, but it looks identical to the Krups /
Braun.

The coffee made with the SwissGold hits the middle and forward third
of the tongue and imparts a dryness to the taste.

BrandX on the other hand, hits more to the outside of the back of the
tongue with a rounder creamier mouthfeel that rises and encompasses
the roof of the mouth.

Both sensastions persist, even across polishing the ivory.

I'll leave it to the seriously curious to time the brew, log the
basket and pot temps and plot vs. average grind.
