Well, I did. It was used twice. A little "Salton" brand white one.
For $3 at a garage sale. Did I "score?" Will I be more likely to
"score" being the owner of said machine?

Thank you.

Allow me to foolishly jump in where angels fear to tread. Definitions
can also be divided between professional and lay meanings. Words often
have different, and usually more specific, meanings for dors and
lawyers ("inherit" and "rob" come to mind), than they do for the
public at large. Discussions within the professional fold are
generally assumed to use the professional definitions.

The world of coffee professionals and connoisseurs also has its own
set of definitions and distinctive uses of words ("origin" is a
popular one). Discussions on alt.coffee often include industry lingo
and borrow industry usage, as most regular participants are either in
the industry, are thinking about being in it or are essentially
honorary members.

"Espresso" within the U.S. coffee industry (as opposed to marketing
puffery aimed at the general public) is not what comes out of a moka
pot, a steam toy or a package of "instant cappuccino." What appears on
a Mr. Coffee box or is spoken between unknowledgeable consumers is
mostly irrelevant here. I understand that beginners often come here
for help, and they receive a lot of it. But, I think in matters of
meaning, professional usage prevails here over lay meaning.

The froogle search I did came out a bit differently.
Of the first twenty, nineteen were pump machines and
one was a lever.
You can pretty much make a froogle search "prove"
whatever you want.

Thanks for jumping in, Marshall ---- what you've said makes sense and is an
excellent summation. It's such an excellent summation that I'm going to let
it stand as the last word.
If D. Ross wishes to continue to delude himself that the "professional"
usage of the term (as used appropriately in the context of this newsgroup)
is "exactly coincident" with the "lay" usage (in spite of evidence that he
himself has supplied), then so be it.
Thanks again.

C'mon RG, after your fiasco trying to explain how a combination of good
espresso machine, good grinder, & good beans, would result in poor coffee?
Give up on trying to point out flaws in others for a while. ;)

I still have a Salton EX3 machine from the '80's that makes a nice
coffee and can steam too. Pictured on my site.

Oh, you really scored! Was your heart racing on the way back home?

Anyway, put a fancy Italian name over the top of the Salton label and I'd
bet you could ebay it for $1000 or more.

Prolly one of our resident alt.coffee nutcakes will buy it and PID it.
LOL!
