Subject: Is $1050 a reasonable price for a Saeco Incanto Sirius?
|
I am looking to make an offer on an auction that is closing soon. The asking price is over $1200. I've seen the machine locally for over $1500. Am I unrealistic to offer $1050? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4467532065&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Thanks !

In the description in the above auction it states, "The ceramic grinder is Saeco's most recent innovation, available EXCLUSIVELY in the Incanto range of coffee machines. After careful research, Saeco finally chose this material to put an end to grinding with metal components. Indeed ceramic is inert, and thus ensures the best results without altering the flavor of coffee.." FINALLY! None of that nasty tool steel aftertaste that has been a problem for over 100 years! :-/ Randy "brass filings for dessert" G. http://www.EspressoMyEspresso.com

How >much will new burrs cost? > My thoughts as well. I think it is a solution to a nonexistant problem. Ceramics have their place as they are (or can be) virtually impervious to heat and expansion but whne they might be subjected to bits of foreign matter (concrete, rocks, metal bits, etc.) grinding burrs are not one of those places... IMO. I wonder what a replacement set costs? With Rocky burrs selling for around $40 a set, if the ceramics are cheap it might work... then again... RG and RH both despise Saeco, yet have no knowledge or use experience with any of them, so I'd dismiss their remarks out of hand. All Saeco grinders have a built-in clutch that will slip if the grinder is blocked by a foreign object, sparing the burrs and the motor. IMHO, the 'sirius' is a fine unit, and it looks like a good price. -- this without seeing it or testing it... Dave (who) KNOWS Saeco. I missed the end of this auction, but the same seller has relisted, so I think I will be bidding today. Thanks again kimberly

Wanted to mention . . . VERY similar quality coffee output can be had from the vienna line, not as fancy, but virtually identical internally. at about HALF the price. Dave Saeco / Gaggia service SE
