Ok, what's the deal? They said one cup of coffee a day was good to keep
the dor away. Now they are saying that you need 4 cups to cut
diabetes?! I don't care what it is, but I want to know if it's true
whether coffee is OK to drink everyday for the rest of your life?

I'm 25 and just about to become addicted to coffee....but wondering if
I should cut back since I am not yet quite addicted to it (though, I
find my body wants to drag my head to the coffee machine).

I don't know, I guess I just grew up with my parents telling me that
coffee was "bad" for you and that you should not drink more than 2 cups
a week.

In a nutshell, what's the latest data on this? I probably shouldn't be
asking here, I should be asking in a medical group....sort of like
asking pilots whether flying is safe...you know what answers to expect.

If you eat any food long enough, it will kill you. If you don't eat any
food long enough, that will kill you too. The day she was diagnosed with
terminal cancer my mother went down to her country club and handed the chef
the list of stuff that she hadn't eaten in fifteen years hoping to avoid a
heart attack and told him "make it _all_".

If you like coffee drink coffee. If you don't like coffee don't drink
coffee. If you think drinking coffee will make you live forever then you
are mistaken. If you think it will kill you quickly you are mistaken in
that as well. Maybe, if you are unfortunate enough to die of natural
causes, drinking coffee will make that happen a little later or a little
sooner than it might otherwise have, or maybe not. Personally I'd be
worried more about the agenarian in the urban assault vehicle nattering
on his cell phone.

A _F...ing_men!!!

Exercise, a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veg coupled
with a healthy outlook will do more wonders than any other combination
to increase your chances of raising your life expectation. Be well and
be happy.

Fortunately, most ogenarians have more sense than to drive a UAV in
the first place. ;)

Medically, excessive caffinated coffee contributes to acid reflux
(GERD). This is due to caffeine actually relaxing the valve between
the stomach and the lower esophagus. Stomach acid then can readially
travel up the esophagus and cause heartburn, esophagus damage, larynx
damage, etc. If left untreated (lowering caffeine intake, medication
uptake, etc.), it can cause further damage, even cancer of the
esophagus and larynx.

On the flip side, the more you drink the less likelihood of kidney
cancer.

And the real question is, Randy "Coffee without Caffeine is like a day
without Sunshine" G. may not yet be blind, but does he have hairy
palms?

I find it quite confusing that Acid Reflux was unheard of when people
were thinner...

Oh, well, back in the Civil War days, folks just called it heartburn.

The (only) two people in my life with acid reflux are both lean.

When I was involved in flight instruction, we used to drink an incredible
amount of coffee on washout days, waiting for the weather to improve...like
10 + a day....Never had a problems passing my aviation medicals :-)) Not
that I recommend anyone to consume that amount on a regular basis !

Regardless of what Randy says..........it's ok providing your not taking off
or landing :-))

If you asked a dor that question, then no, it isn't working for
you.

I think that having you head drag you off to drink coffee from a
(dispensing?) machine is a real good sign that you are addicted to
caffeine, but not coffee.

Everything is bad in excess, and few things are bad in moderation.

Eh, moderation in all things will get you to the end of your life and allow lots of enjoyment.
Don't know if you are a parent, but if you've ever been around a herd of 4 year olds you can
understand the admonition of parents saying "no coffee for you, bub."

I did a search on Google for coffee +health and got 154,000,000 hits.

The first half dozen or so are relevant and will answer your question.

Enjoy coffee,

Hello:

Just to let you know, I'm not part of that medical group you mentioned.
Smile. I'm a coffee lover myself and find it kind of hard to get my
day started without it, too.

I'm a bit older than you, and what I've found is; they say about
everything we put in our mouth, what might be considered beneficial
today, may not be tomorrow. So 2 cups or 6 cups it's all about
"MODERATION AND BALANCE" Wouldn't you agree?

Respectfully

My Deal.....

Coffee isn't as bad for you as some people would have you believe.
Coffee has several benefits; it increases the effectiveness of
painkillers, prevents constipation, slows cirrohsis in the liver,
possibly reduces the risk of diabetes, and might also increase short
term memory capabilities. There are a few risks, but I feel the
benefits outway them: Some people can't sleep at night, but that goes
away with tolerance, it can stain your teeth, it has the potential to
increase blood pressure in people with high blood pressure. It also
causes inflamation in the cardiovascular system, so having above four
cups a day eliminates any heart benefits coffee can give you. I would
say four cups a day is a good number, above that can start to get a bit
sketchy.
