Anyone know anything about this company? (It's at javacity.com) My
brother-in-law just sent me some coffee from them for my birthday. It
seemed promising until I looked at the freshness date: Use by Nov. 11
2007.

The purpose of the date really isn't stated.

Personally, I would not consider a coffee with a one year expiration
date, but considering the circumstances I think it is reasonable top
say the coffee is not ancient and should be enjoyed. OTOH if one
bought a coffee bag with an expiration date of 11-11-07 on 11-01-07 one
could have a sense of comfort that would be shattered on the first
brewing. But who knows. The best rule to follow is to know your
roaster. But in the case of gifts...I say give them a try.

Not much at all. However I would use the expiration date as a starting
point and enjoy the coffee well beforehand. Many roasters don't even
bother to provide such a date, so in a way such information is a plus.
There are many people who would not be the least concerned about using
1 year old coffee and canned preground coffee could be sitting for that
long too. It would not be to me tatse though.
