Subject: Levetta on E61 flips to middle position by itself?
|
Hello, I have a La Valentina with the levetta or lever (like the one at http://www.1st-cup.com/machines/home_mod/1stline/la_valentina_levetta_espresso_machine.htm), and the levetta will flip from the downward position into the middle position of its own accord. It only does it when the machine has been warmed up and usually after I've been flushing or pulling shots. It'll do it a few times in a row and then stop. It tends not to do it for a few days after backflushing - since I presume cleaning out the old oils effectively increases friction around the seals. What can I pull apart, check, and clean or replace that may stop this from occurring? Has anyone else experienced this and successfully fixed it? Regards, Gary

Firstly, whilst it may be good to be able to exercise the choice to have the lever in the middle position, I don't have that choice if the lever flips to the middle of its own accord. Secondly, and more importantly the lever has, on occasions, flipped far enough to engage the pump. Regards, Gary

Gary, You might have a leaking seal causing backpressure to act upon one of the pistons, thereby moving the cam, and then the lever. Or, there is nothing wrong at all except that you need to adjust the timing on you pump switch (activated by the cam on the back of the lever). If so, loosen the switch's front panel nut a turn or two and tighten the one inside. This will move the switch backwards, delaying its engagement. Of course, unplug the machine first. Dan

Dan Thanks Dan. I'll see what I can pull apart and clean. Regards, Gary
