Subject: MDF Grinder Repair

The doser on my Gaggia MDF grinder was sticking, so I followed the
instructions at http://www.coffeecrew.com/content/view/358/27/ and
successfully tightened up the nut. The lever works smoothly and all
is well.
Except.
Except for the high-pitched scream the grinder now emits. I had it set
to a fairly coarse grind, poured in my beans, and it ground the coffee,
but not with the low-pitched rumble it used to have. The sound is much
higher-pitched, and much louder. It settled down after a while and
sounded normal, the low rumble, but I was still worried.
Playing around with the grind settings (and no beans), at first it
sounded normal on a fine grind, and a coarse grind sounded OK until I
switched it off. It would scream briefly. Then it started screaming
all the time on a coarse grind. Then it screamed no matter what.
Any suggestions? Questions?

After years of service and sporadic descaling, our Gaggia Evolution
is completely blocked. It can pump water out the steam wand but not
through the brew head.
I can probably take apart the boiler and lines and clean it up but I'm
having trouble (nondestructively) getting the lid off. All around the
edges the clips can be eased free and each corner in turn can be
pryed upbut there is some kind of post or strut in the middle that's
holding on tight. Is there a trick?

I recently worked on mine, because the doser level was broken.
You didn't remove the burrs, right?
Is it possible that you dropped a screw or something into the burrs?
Into the motor?
I took my burrs out to examine and clean everything, because the
previous owner used it for flavored coffee, and the damned thing came to
me smelling like perfume or something! So I cleaned everything with an
ultrasonic cleaner. Mine now works perfectly, and the smell is gone.

Nope, I didn't.

All present and accounted for. Could I have fastened something down
too tightly? It seems to work better when there are beans in the
chute.

My sympathies. Flavored coffee is an abomination unto God.
