Subject: Moka Pot Question

At the Seattle show I saw a (then) new(to me, anyway) moka pot that
had an internal piston that forced water, under steam presser, through
the coffee. Anyone remember what that was or who was
selling/distributing it in the US? I had the literature for it but it
was long ago misplaced.

Sounds like a Brikka
Made by Bialetti of Italy.

This one was made in Italy, but I am pretty sure it was not a
Bialetti. This one had a patented design that had a piston that pushed
the water up through the coffee. The piston wa pushed by the boiling
water beneath it- at least that's how I remember it. It was mush
different in function and internal design thatn the 'standard' moka
pot. It was all stainless steel.

Not unless Krups bought it since then. I think it won some award for
best new product/design or such that year. All stainless steel IIRC.

Doesn't sound like a Brikka. Brikka is my main Moka pot and I love it
but there is no piston in there. It has a pressure valve that delays
brew until the pressure gets a touch higher than typical moka pots, but
other than that, it's a standard Bialetti design.

?Yeah, it sounds odd.... The write up says the water passes through the
piston to infuse the coffee and the piston then uses the steam pressure
to compress the coffee.... I guess I'd have to see it.

Just out of curiosity: does it work? How does the coffee it produces to
espresso or coffee from a standard Moka?
