A couple of years back I bought this machine as an affordable option following a tip gleaned from this forum that they could be bought for effectively half their normal retail price if one just could tolerate a minute 'Starbucks' branding. I used it initially just for use with our Atomic. More recently I acquired a La Pavoni Professional, and I worried a bit about likely results, given that some of the comments on this forum about the Solis 166 are fairly disparaging. Well, I must have been fortunate in the actual product I bought. The espresso grind (admittedly from the max setting) is fine and extremely uniform, and the result through the Pavoni is sweet, with intense flavour. It obviously helps that I roast my own beans and grind only moments before I pull a shot. Is there usually wide variance in performance from this model? Is the Pavoni more forgiving than many machines? I'd be interested to know how I'm likely to fare using the Solis with my new ECM Botticelli, which should be sitting on my bench in a week or so......
