Subject: OK to store beans in the bag they're delivered in?

At the moment I keep the freshly roasted beans in the
metallicy/plasticy bag they are delivered in (in a plastic airtight
container). I had the intention of getting a ceramic/glass container in
the future and keep the beans directly in there, but I've found it's
really easy to pour the beans from the bag into the narrow shot glass I
use to measure the coffee in.
Will keeping the beans in the bag adversely affect them?

The LESS exposure to air the better! (and heat, and light)
however you accomplish this.
freezing NOT recommended.

Recommended by my speciality roaster in situations when they really have to
be kept for more than a week or two. Like when he has his annual holiday!

Keeping them anywhere for more than a couple weeks
post roast will adversely affect them (but if you MUST
keep them that long, the freezer is the place where
they'll be least adversely affected).

Does anyone know if it hurts to keep a week's worth of beans in what
seems to be a reasonably airtight grinder hopper (In my case, a Gaggia
MDF)?

What does it taste like?
That should be your test...
Personally, I store the stuff for my use this way, I am too lazy to do
otherwise, but then I replenish the supply two or three times a week.

Actually, in case I didn't make it clear: The reason I was asking was
to do purely with taste. Just to check keeping the beans in the bag
wouldn't affect the flavour, rather than it being a freshness/storage
issue.

I make sure I use them within 2 weeks. I've never got to the point
where they're stale - I order 250g bags regularly.

Prior to your post I'd purchased several 1 pound bags of the same
fresh roast from a specialty roaster to test your question. The bags
are heat sealed plastic with 1 way valves.
I froze one, kept one sealed at room temp and used one to make coffee
until it was intolerable, about a week later.
I removed the frozen bag and let it aclimatize over night before
opening.
Surprisingly, the frozen bag was fairly close to the original bag a
week previously. The unopened bag was 90% as bad as the opened bag.
The degradation in the opened bag was somewhat more than I'd expected,
even though I did my best to remove all the air before sealing.

This fairly accurately follows what I now do with fresh 1 pound bags
from my roaster, based on some trial and error and frustration with
bags going stale - though I get a few weeks certainly before it's
intolerable. I usually buy it the day it's roasted...
