Subject: On espresso tolerance

A few years back, we had a couple of guests over for an evening of Pizza
and wine, which proved to be a great hit. When we were through eating and
drinking, I said:

"I would like to offer you some espresso, but I happen to have just run
out of espresso beans." "May I make you some drip coffee instead?"

My guests then informed me:

"We use regular coffee for espresso at home." "We got a 3 lb. can last
week of the local supermarket's label for only $5.89!" "Also, we picked up
our espresso machine at the thrift store for only $3.00!"

I just smiled and said: "To each their own," and went ahead to make some
drip from my two day previously roasted Kenya beans for them.

It would not only have been rude to say anything negative about their
concept of "espresso," but it would have been futile. We all do our own
thing to find a degree of hapiness, and we must all show tolerance and
respect for others who find their own way.
