Subject: Oscar with wet steam :-(

Recently my Oscar (euro model) have been acting a bit strange.

When steaming after the initial getting rid of water, it still comes
with a lot of micro spit of water with the steam.

Allso the coffe dont get as much crema as it used to, i have checked
timing for the brew and the stamp pressure, they are both ok (stampin
17kg and the brew is about 26sec for a double)

Can this either be a to hot or to cold machine? to me it seems a bit
colder than it used to, but i have a hard time checking it, the best
result is when the machine is really hot, then i can get 82-85C when
letting the water flow into a pre heated alu 1dL meassurement cup
checked both with my milk thermometer and an electric for the oven.

everything just got cleaned, back flush, steam wand got a soaking with
a cleaning agent from my local roaster and the problem is still the
same.

Hope you guys have some good ideas for me before sending it in for
service :-D

Dennis

Thank you

Im pretty sure i know how the pressure stat works, after doing a
massive search on this topic ;-)

Ill take a look at the lvl sensor to.

ill write my initial findings on these adjustments when i have done
them tomorrow :-D

Try adjusting your pressurestat higher. About 1/2 turn at a time until it's
hot enough for your taste. If the safety valve blows, turn the pressurestat
back down. (A large puff of steam will escape but this is just the safety
valve doing its job and is harmless). Keep your hands and face well clear
of the safetly valve area while adjusting so you don't get scalded. Search
the google groups archives on how to do this and if you can't find it, ask
again.

Wet steam may also be too high a water lever in the boiler. Note the
position of the water level probe (a single wire in the top middle of the
boiler connects to it) and push it down a bit with the machine cool.

As promised, here=B4s a little respond :-D

Its not perfect, but the water spraying is allmost gone, skimming is a
lot better and the steam power is even more amazing.

Problem, it steams even faster, but the result is better microfroth
even at first try where i allmost overskimmed and heated the milk hehe,
now it got the power to steam for 2 latte i think, gone try tonight.

the coffee got even nicer crema than ever, the taste is so much more
balanced, some of the sour taste is gone (this might just be luck
though, have to brew some more to make sure)

Havent tested water temp, but it looks better.

what did i do? the water lvl sensor was moved 3mm down and the
thermostat got about a half turn, the small amount of water in the
steam is accepteble i think, its not a dual boiler ;-)

So thank you so much for the help, it looks like it did wonders
