Like everyone else I get inserts within my magazines for Gevalia coffee. Is it any better than ordinary Foldgers or MJB from a supermarket? Harry

Goto a local coffeehouse/shop(not starbucks, thats not what good coffee is supposed to taste like) But a real coffeeshop and talk to them, get a half pound or so of whatever they recomend based on your taste. Brew up a pot and you will be amazed, it will be like night and day. Thats the first step, then with your own grinder it gets even better... And theres unlimited different types of coffees(no flavored ones please) and roasts to try. ttfn -bradk warning: you could become dangerously obsessed with coffee like everyone else in this newgroup

Hey, its shit but you should experience everything (almost) at least once. What other experiences would I pass on until forced by circumstances beyond my control? Probably not many; I've eaten bugs & snakes, been shot at & returned fire, taken multiple GSWs & pieces of shrapnel, jumped from a perfectly good airplane, been married to my first & second ball & chain, and been bitten by a rabid possum. The events leading up to every one of these events seemed logical at the time. They were all extremely foolish acts in hindsight but seemed logical at the time. Friedrich Nietzsche said, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger.", so drinking bad coffee just might turn you into Superman! I have tried, and enjoyed Gevalia, but it is far from my favorite. My absolute favorite is home roasted (by me). After that I prefer the local roasters. A favorite mail order roaster of our family is Baby's Coffee from Key West, FL http://www.babyscoffee.com/ AlanM "Harry" <havant@earthlink.net > wrote in message news:9Biig.3792$lf4.2921@newsread1.news.pas.earthlink.net... > Like everyone else I get inserts within my magazines for Gevalia coffee. > Is it any better than ordinary Foldgers or MJB from a supermarket? > > Harry

We join and quit once a year or so. We have yet to find a coffee from them we like. My wife thought she liked the Peaberry, but decided not. The thing about Gevalia is that they give you some very nice cups, picnic sets, vacuum pumps, etc., every time you join. Then when you quit after you receive the first shipment, they contact you a few months later wanting you to rejoin and offering more free stuff. So, if you are getting Gevalia for the coffee, you are likely to be disappointed, but if you look at it as a way to get coffee paraphenalia cheap, you might be happy.

The coffee is not bad - it's a far cry better than canned, supermarket coffee, but I don't care for it. We join every few years when we need a new drip coffeemaker. Those aren't bad, either. Many years ago, they gave away small, 4-cup Krups drip machines, which were pretty good for single coffee drinker households. Now they usually do 12 cups, but I don't know what 'brand' they are. I tend to make home roasted coffee in a French Press or an Aeropress, depending on how many people I'm serving. If it's more than 3 or 4, I use the Gevalia drip machine.
