Subject: Quality Coffee in Singapore

Hi,

In my past visits to Singapore, I've had to endure Gloria Jeans and
Starbucks coffee on Orchard Rd. I'm going again soon and I want to ask
if there is anyplace I get served outstanding Indonesian coffee, and
where I can get green beans (like Sulawesi Toraja) to roast when I get
home.

Many thanks,
Woody

if you drink alcohol, remember to bring some along. Alcohol of every type
is very heavily taxed in Singapore, and a small beer costs as much as a
glass of grand cru Champagne elsewhere.

Well, that answered the question.

I don't want to be too harsh, but the absence of relevant feedback and
dialog will drive me away from this newsgroup :-(.

Yes, sir. Coming right up, sir. http://tinyurl.com/l4dvc

For what it's worth, if your request hadn't been so ridiculously
specific (find me a great coffee shop in Singapore that features
Sumatran coffees, and don't bother me with any of those damn Kenyans
or Guats), you might have found more helpful responses.

And the answer seems to be, no, there aren't any.

The thing is, there don't seem to be any active Singaporean posters at the
moment. The last time I was there was maybe 7 years ago and I wasn't that
serious about coffee then. My comment about expensive alcohol was correct,
so if you want to drink anything while you are there it wouldn't hurt to
carry a bottle in. IIRC, there is a duty free shop you pass through on
your way to customs & immigration after you land, and if you don't have
something buy then, I suggest you consider buying there.
