I have a Silvia, and am looking to buy a used, second PF that I can
convert to a bottomless. How do I know which brands of portafilters are
compatible with Silvia?

A new Rancilio basket is $50, give or take a dollar. They come in two types
[standard & commercial] for not much difference in price. Why try to use
another brand and take a chance on it locking up?

{;-) The Ascaso 15° angled portafiler is great & works like a charm on
the Silvia withe the compatable 21 gram triple basket too.

Just buy a new one with the bottom already cut out. They aren't that
expensive.
