Subject: Silvia Leak!!!

Ok, I've found it. When you remove the top and look at the boiler,
there is a hard plastic white hose on the right hand side that descends
and goes into the bottom back of the machine. When I am pulling a shot
and the machine is under pressure, this white hose leaks like CRAZY
where it comes out of the couple.
What is this hose? Is this fixable or do I need new parts or to send
it in? thanks!

Well, here's the last update of hte night. The hose is busted. I
tried resecuring it onto the nipple, but when I brewed the next shot
the hose just came loose again and busted about 1/2cm below the boiler
nut. So it's shot. Does anyone know the warranty deal on the Silvia?
It is only 3 weeks old...

Silvia has a 1 year limited Warranty, & I've seen a company offering a 2
year Warranty also.

So now that I"ve got it isolated, how do I resecure the white teflon
hose onto the nipple/nut attached to the boiler? thanks...

BTW,
Since this is the 'vent' hose there is plenty of extra, certainly an
inch or 2 -- as it does NOT have to reach to the bottom of the tank.

Sorry to hear of that problem -
The hose is 6mm x 4 mm teflon and is 215 mm in length on older Silvia's -
newer ones - I don't know.
If you are within driving distance of the retail outlet, I would let them
handle it. Who did you get it from and how close are they?
That hose is normally very trouble-free but when there is a problem such as
you experienced, it is usually indicative of poor assembly or a less than
desirable finish on the small nipple that the hose squeezes over at the
boiler end.
IF you end up trying to replace it yourself, you certainly need to should
start with a new hose because there is not much play in the hose length. In
a nutshell, the new hose needs to be proper length, + 1 to 2 mm, - 0, ends
need to be squarely cut, and you should be heating the ends with a hair
dryer on low setting to SLIGHTLY soften the tubing. Inspect the nipple on
the boiler end carefully and do that end first then the pump end.
If you can salvage the old hose, trim the bad end off with a razor blade no
more than 2 mm and go from there.

simple fix.
cut off about 1 inch of the hose. thread the little spring clamp back
over the hose using pliers, wet it with water, slide the hose onto the
brass nipple all the way and squeeze the clamp with the pliers and move
it up into place over the hose and nipple, release the clamp so it
squeezes the hose at the connection.
