Subject: Silvia - leak - help

Hi there,

I've recently upgraded to a Reneka Techno from a Rancilio Silvia and
am pretty happy with the current setup. Now there is the question what
to do with the "old" Silvia. Shortly before I had received my Techno
I've noted water leaking out of the case close to the steam wand. On
closer inspection, I could make out the exact location of the leak.
Could somebody experienced in a Silvia setup please take a look at the
picture [1, yellow arrow denotes leak] below and maybe take an
educated guess at what's wrong - and how much it will be to fix? It
would be a lot easier to sell a Silvia that is working again than just
a model with "some leak". Also, the buyer could experience immediate
joy instead of having to deal with repairing the Silvia.

Thanks!

Best regards,
Oliver

The steam valve/wand assembly has 5 relaceable part- There are two
O-rings on teh end of the wand where it goes into the valve. If you
look up under where the wand connects to the machine you will see a
silver net/collar. Unscrew that and the wand assembly comes off.
Either on the end of the wand or up in the valve are two O-rings.

The other three parts are in the valve itself and will require the
removal of the valve from the machine which, while not being terribly
difficult, is more complicated to explain. The arrow in your picture
indicated that the O rings in the valve body are in need of replacing.
Remove the valve from the machen and sdosassemblt it and you will see
the other two o-rings and the cock gasket.

So order 4 o-rings (they are all the same) and the cock gasket. Might
as well replace the brewhead gasket as well since you ar ordering
parts anyway.

Contact me for details if you wish.

That's the shaft of the steam valve. Probably doesn't leak when the
valve is not used, right?

Shouldn't be a difficult fix -- just replace the valve.

Your steam valve o-rings (and probably your steam valve washer, and the
steam wand o-ring) are dead. About $5.00 worth of parts and $30.00 worth of
labour to replace.
