http://tinyurl.com/y7mrvg Only 4 hours left on this NS Mac digit 1-group & bidding is currently $99. If you're a tinkerer like me this is made for you. 110 or 240 volt? Who cares; at this price you can have an electrician run a line. Same with the plumbing. Robert (Too many machines on my workbench right now!) Someone or some people have been following this auction waiting for the end to bid, in hopes of getting a good deal. Some may be ng regulars; their hopes of getting that good deal are probably now over, due to this link having been posted here. It used to be standard operating procedure here not to post links to online auctions except in the case of something truly bizarre or seemingly dishonest. In my opinion, that is the best practice and we should return to it. ken "Robert Harmon" <r_h_harmon@Zhotmail.com > wrote in message news:Xns9889CBED66DE4rhharmonZhotmailcom@207.217.125.201... > http://tinyurl.com/y7mrvg > > Only 4 hours left on this NS Mac digit 1-group & bidding is currently $99. > If you're a tinkerer like me this is made for you. 110 or 240 volt? As someone who buys & sells with some regularity on eBay & elsewhere it's a double edged sword whether posting bargains here is a good thing or not. Robert, If it helps you understand the situation: I'm a broke dude and before I secured my machine, I had a couple of predone links that I'd click on once a day every day: two or three specifically worded searches on Ebay, one on Craigslist, and one on Coffeegeek's forums. I'd bit on tons of things and get outbid. It was a daily ritual. I just didn't have the bucks to buy new. I was willing to take chances with Ebay. It was incredibly demoralizing to be close to winning an auction and then have someone post here or on coffeegeek about "Hey guys, a .... is going really cheap on Ebay! Thought y'all want to know." I think guys like me who were searching things out ought to somehow reap the benefit of our work over someone who stopped into the group and was like, "Oh, I guess peope think that's a good deal -- I'll bid, too." or "maybe I'll add that machine to my workbench..." I like the fact that this ng has been against such postings in the past. I'd like to see things return to that way. C

Cordovero wrote at some length about the unfairness of publishing links to items that he had previously researched for himself. I resonate with your concerns, having been broke for a good part of my life (try paying back well over 100K in student loans!). That being said, however, I don't think your argument is very convincing. Given that millions of people look at ebay every day and that most of the coffee equipment transacted there is neither bought nor sold by ACs or CGs, the likelihood that Robert's posting of a bargain is going to reduce your chances of winning are pretty small. Ebay auctions are by nature and intention competitive. As any of our eager supply-siders here would likely tell you, getting the edge on the competition any way you legally can is not only acceptable but the way the system is supposed to work. You try to get your edge through daily research. Others may get it by picking up on a post by Robert or Randy or someone else. Either is perfectly fair. Some time back, I bought my son a car for his 16th birthday. Through diligent research over a period of days, I had found a real sleeper deal at a local Nissan dealer. I tore over there only to find that some other guy had made a chance phone call half an hour before and found the same deal....and closed it just before I arrived! Was I pissed? You bet. Did it seem unfair? Damned right. Was I, in the end, merely a chagrined loser? Yep. Keep your chin up. All of us who buy from ebay have had our hearts broken. On the other hand, many of us have found fabulous bargains. You can too, just keep at it.

I asked if they were connected in any way, but they both assured me that they didn't know each other. But what are the odds of the same machine from the same suburban community showing up on eBay? I paid more than the latest sold for but my machine looks like it could've come of the assembly line last week (a few minor scratches & one copper tube had a hair-line crack and needed replacing). I think I'll PID it & list in on eBay for some ridiclous starting price. If anyone wants to bid on it let me know & I'll refrain from mentioning it in this forum. :-O Robert ($145 to pick up, pack, and ship wasn't bad.)
