Subject: Sound level - Hearthware Gourmet vs I-Roast2

Seeing descriptions of the noise level of the I-Roast2, I was wondering
how it compared to the Gourmet, the last Hearthware I owned, which I
thought was pretty loud but acceptable.

My FR+8 suddenly died while I've been mulling HotTop, Bravi, and Gene
Cafe and I'm not ready to commit to one yet.

Thanks!

But if you can roast outside on a BBQ and have batch size requirements
that a Hottop or Gene would satisfy( 6-8 oz up to a pound), want quiet,
and want to see and smell the roast, then consider the HG/DB
(heatgun/dogbowl) or any of its near-endless variations.

Heatgun roasting has lots of appeal to those who begin their queries
with, "I make my living mostly by taking empty soda cans to the
recycler." In that case, the cheapest way to get a high-quality roast
and not smoke up the kitchen may well be the HG/DB. But don't be put
off because it's the ultimate in simplicity, doesn't have a computer
chip, could make you the laughingstock among your Philistine friends,
and is, well, cheap.

If you thought the HWP was loud, you will be disappointed with the
iRoast. It is a better roaster, but loud enough that it is almost
impossible to hear second crack, and if you have any hearing
impairment or for a person who does not know what to listen for, it
_IS_ impossible to hear second.

I can't comment on the Gene, but the Hottop makes a nice roast, albeit
one that tends towards too long.

If you have a BBQ I would say that a BBQ drum is probably the best
$$/roast bet to make.
