>From Boyd's coffee the 741 is $184 = $7.95 shipping. The thermal models are $195 and $205. www.boydscoffeestore.com I also am considering ordering the TV, so I would like to hear your thoughts when yours arrives. There are lots of reviews of the TV at coffeegeek.com . I have always had great service from Sweet Maria's and will order from them again. A friend just bought the thermal model. He is brining it over today to do a side-by-side taste test between the TV and my old, crusty Mr. Coffee. I roasted some La Minita, some Harar Green Stripe and some Nica Dipilto a couple of days ago for the taste-off. Will report back tomorrow. <bigsky@nwi.net > wrote in message news:1160235467.934099.179960@b28g2000cwb.googlegroups.com... > >From Boyd's coffee the 741 is $184 = $7.95 shipping. After the Dipilto and Minita, the TV is slightly ahead. We noticed a bit more acidity in the Mr. Coffee and a bit more balance in the TV. Without instrumentation, I would assume that is due to both the faster brewing and the higher temp of the TV. We brewed 12 ounces of water with 2 regulation scoops (blue SCAA) of grounds per machine. The TV flow was stopped and the grounds stirred for the first minute and then the flow was put on the slow setting until complete. This stop and stir is either inconvenient or impossible with the Mr. Coffee, so it was not included with that machine. We did not let the coffee sit in the pot after brewing for more than 30 seconds before tasting. Everything was done simultaneously from the same coffee, grinder and water source. The beans were roasted 48 hours ago - both to City +. We ground immediately prior to brewing. I cleaned all hell out of the Mr. Coffee this morning with caffeeza. It is approximately 4 years old (not the first time it was cleaned). We have decided to suspend tasting for now due to improper tasting protocol - we swallowed alot. I would say that it would be difficult to conclude a great deal from our tasting. Much more would need to be done, but an initial evaluation would lead me to believe that the extra $165 is not buying much. Certainly the differences on these two batches is very minimal. The TV does look like a much more *serious* machine next to the pedestrian black Mr. Coffee. C. As I explained a couple of posts ago, a friend just happened to buy one of these machines a couple of weeks ago and we were interested in doing a side_by_side taste test. I am not an acclaimed coffee specialist. I have no credentials or formal training as relates to coffee. My only qualifications are: I had a technivorm and a mr. coffee side by side and I have a tongue. > I see on the TV that they say: 10 cup capacity (Euro standards). > > What are euro standards? That is a small American cup of coffee. I think a normal American cup of coffee is around 8+ ounces. The ratio of 2 tablespoons coffee grounds to 6 ounces of water for brewing coffee seems to be pretty common. Chris Holliday

Assuming that I usually only brew two 8 oz cups a day ( U.S. ) I should probably get the 1 liter model, but it doesn't appear to come with the glass carafe. -- - Mama Bear

I just ordered the 1 litre thermal carafe KBTS 741 from Sweet Maria's for $192.50 + shipping. ($200.00 for the 1.25 litre). They list all the models at their site. http://www.sweetmarias.com/prod.technivorm.shtml Wholelattelove appears to offer only one model and to have the worst price. For the non-thermal KB 741, they want $229.00 including shipping, vs. $182.00 + shipping from Thompson. Possibly, there is a price increase in the works. HTH, Bradley
